Boulder

Boulder is located close to Denver and is the County seat of Boulder County. The city is well known for several reasons including the fact that it is home to the University of Colorado’s main campus. Boulder, which is located adjacent to the Flatiron mountains and off Highway 36, west of the City of Denver, is also famous for being one of America’s leading science and research towns. the Pearl Street mall which is a pedestrian-friendly area in downtown features the city’s courthouse, many shops, boutiques, restaurants, and street entertainment. Boulder also has a reputation for a very liberal slant.

The City of Boulder hosts several annual events and festivals which draw locals, Colorado residents, and visitors from all over the world. A few of the most popular include the Colorado Music Festival held each summer, the University of Colorado’s annual Shakespeare Festival, and The “Bolder Boulder,” a 10K run held each Memorial Day weekend.

Boulder Economy

There are several industries and corporations that are based in Boulder and its surrounding areas which contribute to the city’s economy – besides the University. A few of the larger ones

include, Ball Aerospace, IBM, the National Center of Atmospheric Research, Celestial Seasonings, and Hewlett-Packard.

The median household income in Boulder is $44,748, the median family income is $70,257 (which is more than $20,000 above the U.S. average), the median income for males is $41,829, the median

income for females is $32,100, and the per capita income for Boulder is $27,262. Within Boulder, 17.4% of the population and 6.4% of families are below the poverty line. Of the total population, 10.4% of those under the age of 18 and 6.5% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

Boulder is home to both permanent and non-permanent (or student) residents. Since the University of Colorado’s Boulder campus has an enrollment of approximately 30,000 students each year, there are

several apartment complexes and areas where students live temporarily while attending CU. There are also several neighborhoods where permanent, non-student Boulder residents typically live.

Boulder is a popular residential area for many reasons including its relatively close proximity to Denver and it’s located just a short drive to Rocky Mountain National Park, and several ski resorts. Boulder’s permanent and non-permanent residents are known for their dedication to preserving the environment and reducing pollution which results in very little sprawl leading to higher home prices.
